Brighton might be well known as the party capital of the UK, but apart from walking down the pier and enjoying the seaside, what is there to do? Well, more than you might think. There are lots of sports and activity clubs in the area which offer exhilarating and invigorating activities for individuals at all levels of physical fitness. This article details just a few of the sports clubs in Brighton.

Brighton & Hove Gymnastics Club

Brighton & Hove Gymnastics Club is a friendly gymnastics club situated in a converted church next to Goldstone Retail Park. The club’s staff and volunteers are all CRB-checked, the coaches are fully qualified and there is also a welfare officer. Brighton & Hove Gymnastics Club

Over the summer holidays, Brighton & Hove Gymnastics Club is open for drop-in sessions for children who are not members of the club and members who would like to do more. Each session costs £6.50 per child. There is also a holiday course over the summer, running from 20th August – 23rd August between 9.30 and 12.30 pm. This course costs £40 for the four days, or £12 per day if individual.

Sussex Kung Fu

Sussex Kung Fu has been based in Brighton for eighteen years, embracing a broad style that embraces all the fundamentals of martial arts. Students here learn the Shaolin Nam Pai Chuan system, picking up blocking, kicking, punching, blocking, throwing, and nerve-point techniques, as well as form.

If you’re interested in trying out some kung fu, you can try a free class! They can be found in Brighton at The Ki Aikido Centre and Alive Gym, in Hove at the Cornerstone Community Centre, or at the University of Sussex Sports Centre at the Falmer campus. Brighton Explorers Club

Brighton Explorers Club is a multi-activity outdoors club, who specializes in climbing, cycling, walking, caving, windsurfing, and canoeing. Occasionally the group go sailing, coasteering, and even surfing, welcoming outdoors types at all levels of fitness. Brighton Explorers Club

Climbing and cycling activities happen each week throughout the year, while canoeing, walking, windsurfing, badminton, and tennis are preserved for the summer. Each fortnight a weekend trip is organized, as well as a week-long new year trip and a summer trip. Summer trips have included hiking in Iceland and trekking in Austria, Slovenia, and Norway.

Brighton Kite Flyers

Are you looking for a slightly more laid-back activity? Brighton Kite Flyers bring together kite enthusiasts to exchange information, knowledge, techniques, and ideas. The group was founded in 1979 and has developed into a world-renowned group.
